Be still my beating heart…I walked through Trinity Bellwoods Park, where I had hung some love letters earlier this week, only to find an emptied envelope re-filled with new love letters!
My fav? “You are a babetron. A babetron 90000.” Hells yah.

Christa Couture is one of my favourite people of all time. And she happens to be an extraordinary musician. One day, after bantering about embroidered book covers, I off-handedly offered to embroider her next album cover. And here they are. Loved. And Lost. I nearly lost all feeling in my right index finger, and went a little loopy embroidering for an eight hour stretch (something I do not recommend, by the way). But oh, how I love them. Love love love them.

And oh! The songs! (They’re free, ps! Download now!) “Jennifer Grey” and “I Don’t Play the Piano” make me dance in the kitchen. And Aaron Joyce’s instrumental arrangement in “A Grief as This” has brought me to tears nearly every time I’ve listened to it (in the very best way!)
It is the greatest of honours to have created the covers for these extraordinary compilations (and ps: the liner notes are hi-larious!!)

I will be reading at A Fringe Fiesta this Monday night and will be auctioning off a handbound book! Dance + science + Mexican food, what more could you want on a Monday night? (except maybe a margarita…and you can even have one, too!)
In addition to my organ-based poetry and book, there will be live music, live performance, raffles, drinks and sampling tasty Mexican dishes. All in support of the gals creating and performing in Scienceography: dances of physiology, entomology and psychology at The Toronto Fringe Festival.

On CBC’s Metro Morning, Matt Galloway chatted with someone who found a love letter! He was disappointed it wasn’t a love note to him, but admitted it still made him smile.
Hearing from people who have come across these letters has been such an unanticipated joy:
“You don’t know me but you might know my bike. It was all by itself ( John St. North of Queen) cold and alone Tuesday night while I was stressed and working very late at a new job. I got back to my bike and found a love letter that I have been keeping my eyes peeled for since I found out about it 2 weeks ago. It totally turned my night and week around. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this very special gift!”
“My partner said that she had read an article about this artist who goes around the city writing love letters to the city and she said that she was pretty sure that was one. We kept walking and I really wanted to go back and check but felt awkward about it so we kept walking further down Queen. We walked East for a while and decided it was getting late so we turned around and headed back home. I had completely forgot about the letter, until my partner pointed out that there it was; the letter was still there waiting for us! So we took it home with us, poured two glasses of wine and opened the letter. Thank you for making our day.”

My response was “not personally but I think someone is just spreading love around randomly and I’m so glad we got some here!” And to my utter delight, I learned this morning on Metro Morning that I was right!! Lindsay Zier-Vogel wedged a letter, sealed in an old-fashioned airmail envelope, into the sand at Sunnyside Beach last Friday morning. She stuffed another letter into the hollow of a tree near the boardwalk and tied another to a No Lifeguard on Duty sign a few metres from the shore—this one was addressed to “the lake, where it looks like an ocean.”

The Love Lettering Project VII kicked off on Friday June 10th and for the next 20 days, I’ll be papering Toronto with (500!!) love poems!
A love poem to Roncesvalles:
I love you
where the trees are bigger
than arms can reach
and porches spread
the width of houses.
A love poem to College/Dundas St. overpass:
There is a bridge
where the air smells
like Kit Kats
and the sun is always setting.
A love poem to Lake Ontario:
I love you where the lake stretches
further than eyes can make sense of,
turning the blue into forever.
A love poem to brunch:
I love you early
in the morning,
a lazy Saturday
a lazier Sunday,
sweetened
by maple syrup
and you.
If you stumble upon an envelope marked ‘love,’ don’t be shy – it’s for you!!
